Proietto Companies\u2019 vice president, Sandra Michael, didn\u2019t choose FOUNDATION\u00ae \u2014 at least, not at first. The Florida-based Proietto Painting<\/a> already had FOUNDATION in place when they hired Sandra as their general manager over HR and training. She couldn\u2019t have guessed that a job cost accounting application would play the enormous role for her that it did. \u201cI always have to tell people, I\u2019m not paid to say this,\u201d she explains. \u201cIt saved me.\u201d<\/p>\n\"UG<\/a>\n

<\/span>Catching up the Accounting<\/span><\/h2>\n

When Sandra started at Proietto Painting, her responsibilities soon included more and more pieces of their payroll. It gave her a taste of FOUNDATION, but that was just the beginning. After a couple of absences in their staff, Sandra also had to pick up accounts payable, then step in as acting controller. It was at that point she could really see what she\u2019d inherited within their system.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was completely underutilized,\u201d she remembers with dismay. Despite FOUNDATION\u2019s integrated set of core accounting modules<\/a> at their disposal, Sandra\u2019s predecessors had chosen to use it mostly to process payroll. The majority of their accounting was still being done outside of the system. \u201cAll of the information wasn\u2019t even being put in. I had a lot of clean up to do from an accounting standpoint.\u201d<\/p>\n

Before Proietto, Sandra had been acting controller for a manufacturing company and a banker for 12 years before that. This was her first experience with construction accounting, but she was grateful for every bit of financial background she had. \u201cI just stepped into this situation,\u201d she remembers. \u201cWe hadn\u2019t been balancing our bank recs; we weren\u2019t using the internal controls.\u201d Sandra recruited her former CFO to help her sort through their general ledger: \u201cHe even started learning FOUNDATION and was saying to me, \u2018This is really good software \u2014 this is really user-friendly.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/span>Finding a Partner for Success<\/span><\/h2>\n

Leveraging FOUNDATION to get her company\u2019s accounting back on track, Sandra used every tool at her disposal. \u201cI was constantly on the phone with people. All of the staff there has always been responsive.\u201d Consultants from Foundation also made trips out to Proietto\u2019s offices to train the staff. One of the first steps Sandra took, though, was going to a user conference, and that blew her away. \u201cI was just trying to be a sponge to soak it all in. That\u2019s when I became a fan of the company, of the people, of Fred and Mike and everybody.\u201d<\/p>\n

It paid off. Soon enough \u2014 and not a moment too soon \u2014 their accounting got where it needed to be again. \u201cThis is one of the reasons I love the product and I love the people at Foundation.\u201d She adds, \u201cPart of what helped anchor me and save me was really just FOUNDATION.\u201d Using FOUNDATION got even easier with the right data and processes in place. \u201cAs we started putting more and more information in, we were able to get more and more information out.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now Sandra has so much data on her jobs, she feels like she\u2019s in the field \u2014 and her project supervisors can\u2019t be sure she isn\u2019t. \u201cI can read a report and pinpoint exactly what\u2019s going on in a job<\/a>. They ask, \u2018How did you know that? Do you have spies on us?\u2019\u201d she laughs. \u201cIt\u2019s just so key when you can\u2019t be physically out at a jobsite that could be 100 miles from another. These reports<\/a> let me know in advance if we\u2019re headed into an issue, and you can\u2019t put a value on that. FOUNDATION makes that possible for me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Of course Sandra knows from experience, reporting like that is only possible with a solid accounting foundation \u2014 one you can have confidence in. \u201cI\u2019m a high-compliance person, and I\u2019m always about best practices,\u201d she says. \u201cI feel like FOUNDATION really helped me put things in order for the company. I can just say it helped me keep my sanity.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/span>Leading the Change<\/span><\/h2>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re always a work in progress, and we\u2019ve come a long way,\u201d Sandra says. Today, the two businesses under the Proietto Companies umbrella are making some big, structural changes. She says that includes bringing new and different types of work into their portfolio, automating new processes, and adding new key staff members. \u201cWe\u2019re restructuring everything, so we\u2019re really in a big year of change, and FOUNDATION is very much at the front of how we\u2019re rolling out those changes.\u201d<\/p>\n

As one example, Sandra expects Proietto\u2019s new assets and materials manager to play a major role using FOUNDATION\u2019s Fixed Assets<\/a> and Inventory<\/a> Modules. She has big plans for the FOUNDATION mobile\u00ae field log<\/a>, Project Management Module<\/a> and Scheduling Module<\/a> too. \u201cWe\u2019re going to start doing more and more with the field, giving them access to stuff live and getting stuff back to the office more quickly,\u201d she says. \u201cI\u2019m very much using FOUNDATION to help me benchmark the changes I\u2019m trying to bring about the company.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the meantime, Sandra\u2019s also been enjoying Foundation\u2019s continued support in Proietto\u2019s day-to-day operations. She recalls one recent instance: \u201cI had to get billings out that night, and it was already 4:45. Foundation put a priority call through for me, and a representative called me right back and walked me through the process.\u201d Everything went out in time. \u201cIt doesn\u2019t matter what department or what the crisis is. I appreciate all of the people there \u2014 they\u2019re just wonderful, wonderful people.\u201d<\/p>\n\"Watch<\/a>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t say enough about how FOUNDATION is supporting us through the process of change,\u201d Sandra concludes. \u201cIt gives me peace about how we\u2019re doing it and the things we want to do for the future. It\u2019s really a pivotal piece.\u201d<\/p>\n
