STRONGSVILLE, Ohio \u2014 <\/strong>This fall, construction software developer Foundation Software<\/a> earned its spot among Smart Business<\/em><\/a>\u2019 20 Northeast companies leading in \u201cworld-class\u201d customer service, after 34 years with customer service at the center. According to CEO\/chairman Fred Ode, the reason is surprising: \u201cWe\u2019re really not a software company,\u201d Ode said. \u201cWe see ourselves as a service company \u2014 we just happen to develop our own product.\u201d<\/p>\n

Foundation\u2019s team demonstrates that philosophy wholeheartedly. \u201cOur employees have consistently gone above and beyond helping our clients,\u201d Ode added, \u201ceverything from helping correct weeks\u2019 worth of data to manually entering bookkeeping for clients who lost power in natural disasters. We have employees coming in early and staying late to help clients resolve issues in time to run payroll \u2014 just as a few examples.\u201d<\/p>\n

That\u2019s why Ode attributes the recent honor to the exceptional employees Foundation prioritizes hiring in client support and training. \u201cThese are difficult positions,\u201d Ode said, \u201cfilled by special people. It takes a special person to provide our standard of customer service.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nearly one-third of Foundation\u2019s employees work in customer service. Each team member is vital in handling the almost 600-per-day call volume. According to client services director Janice Yetmar, \u201cA lot of collaboration goes into efficiently resolving our clients\u2019 issues. Everyone in our department takes pride in helping our clients.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, Ode argues that pride belongs to everyone at Foundation. \u201cFrom sales to marketing, development to reception, everyone has a hand in outstanding customer service,\u201d Ode concluded. \u201cWithout great employees, we wouldn\u2019t have great service. And without great service, it doesn\u2019t matter how great our product is \u2014 we would be nowhere.\u201d<\/p>\n

Customer Service Awards were distributed at an awards luncheon at the Ritz-Carlton in Cleveland on November 8.<\/p>\n
