mean \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foundationsoft.com\/software\/payroll\/\">prevailing wage<\/a>.\u201d But<strong> Davis-Bacon refers specifically to one federal law that represents the cornerstone of prevailing wage requirements<\/strong>: the Davis-Bacon Act of 1931.<\/p>\n<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"\/construction-accounting-software-ebook\/\" class=\"blog-cta-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/2024-05-FSL-blog-post-ad-5-ways-ebook.png\" alt=\"eBook Download\" title=\"eBook Download\"><\/a>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It requires contractors working on qualifying federal projects to pay their laborers at least as much in wages and benefits as what others earn on similar projects.<\/p>\n<p>In other words, contractors must pay the rates that prevail locally for each trade and type of work \u2014 as determined by the U.S. Department of Labor.<\/p>\n<p>It also requires the relevant wage scale to be posted prominently on the jobsite.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Davis-Bacon generally applies to contracts of over $2,000 that involve either the U.S. government or the District of Columbia<\/strong> \u2014 for employees whose work on the jobsite is manual or physical in nature.<\/p>\n<p>But numerous other federal, state and local laws make up today\u2019s prevailing wage requirements.<\/p>\n<p>And that includes the requirement that contractors certify their compliance with special agency-specific forms known as \u201ccertified payroll reports.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>These record the hours, rates and earnings for each worker, each week, on each prevailing-wage job \u2014 along with a statement of compliance contractors must sign and submit weekly.<\/p>\n<p>All of this can mean contractors on prevailing-wage projects have a lot to manage \u2014 which is where <a href=\"\/\">construction-specific accounting and payroll software<\/a> can really help, to make reporting automatic and compliance easier.<\/p>\n<a target=\"_blank\"
