However, when it came time to change their accounting software, office manager Kathy Rambo discovered that finding the right solution to meet the needs of California\u2019s unique reporting requirements wasn\u2019t as easy.<\/p>\n<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"\/construction-accounting-software-ebook\/\" class=\"blog-cta-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/2024-05-FSL-blog-post-ad-5-ways-ebook.png\" alt=\"eBook Download\" title=\"eBook Download\"><\/a>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"A_Bumpy_Road\"><\/span>A Bumpy Road<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>\u201cAs I was doing my research, I was finding little flaws in other accounting programs that couldn\u2019t accommodate us,\u201d she states. Though a variety of these accounting programs touted themselves as construction friendly, they were still falling short in meeting the construction-specific needs of her company \u2014 like having the right space for construction job numbers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt seems really small, but it was like \u2014 oh no, you can only have five characters. Are you serious? You\u2019re in construction! I\u2019ve seen some of the project numbers from the general contractors \u2014 they\u2019re way larger than our numbers! If you\u2019re calling yourself a construction software program, how is it that you\u2019re limiting this to five characters?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The even bigger problem, however, was the limitations she found with <a href=\"\/cp\/\">certified payroll<\/a>. Like a lot of construction companies, Systems Tech Fire Protection faces complex requirements from a variety of agencies and organizations across the state, from the Department of Industrial Relations to counties, schools and cities. Each project might have different wage and fringe requirements \u2014 but so does each unique employee, and that\u2019s where a lot of software was missing the mark.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey wanted us to have this cookie-cutter approach,\u201d Kathy remembers with frustration, \u201clike what the state puts out or the federal government: here are your fringes, and that\u2019s it. And that\u2019s not really how it works. Everybody has different deductibles, if they\u2019re single, if they have a family, which medical they choose.\u201d They needed something that would be flexible enough for a real construction crew. \u201cIt just drove me crazy that nobody was getting the concept. All the other programs fell short on that \u2014 terribly. They failed miserably.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s when she discovered <a href=\"\/software\/\">FOUNDATION construction accounting software<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"A_More_Customizable_Payroll_System\"><\/span>A More Customizable Payroll System<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>\u201cWhen I came across your company and I had my rundown of questions, and you were like \u2018Oh yes, we can do that. Oh yes, we can do that, let me show you how.\u2019 I was like, oh my gosh, I have found the accounting software of my dreams!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Due to its <a href=\"\/software\/payroll\/\">customized sequencing<\/a>, FOUNDATION allows users to set default pay and fringe rates based on factors like job, trade and employee. So it knows where to look for the right information. For Kathy, this meant that she just needed to enter the timecard information \u2014 employee, what trade they worked in, what job they worked on and the hours they worked. FOUNDATION could then pull the numbers from the right data tables to calculate how much the employee should make in wages, how much they should make in which benefits (education, health care, pension), what taxes and deductions need to be withheld, etc. It was exactly what Kathy and Systems Tech Fire were looking for.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf I could go out and put construction software together, this is how I would do it.\u201d Kathy says. \u201cI was singing your praises to everyone that would listen to me. Because it was like: <em>finally<\/em>! Someone got it!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Since FOUNDATION stores their timecard information in a robust, date-sensitive database, Kathy can always go back and pull new reports without having to re-enter data. \u201cThe reports didn\u2019t even have to be set up properly the first time around to capture the data!\u201d she remarks, \u201cFOUNDATION went back and got the data \u2014 some programs won\u2019t do that, but yours does.\u201d<\/p>\n<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"\/demo-video-player\/\" class=\"blog-cta-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/FSL-blog-post-ad-fsl-in-action.png\" alt=\"Watch a Demo\" title=\"Watch a Demo\"><\/a>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This flexibility was especially important in the face of California\u2019s <a href=\"\/learn\/davis-bacon-news\/\">ever-changing reporting requirements<\/a>. Rather than scrambling to create new reports or change information, FOUNDATION is able to pull whatever information Kathy needs.
